Minisode 54: CarousHELL (2016) + CarousHELL the 2nd (2021)

The continued reign of Mr. October, Steve, brings us to this week's punishment films. Born of Southwest Pennsylvania, the minds of Steve Rudzinski and Aleen Isley, and a bunch friends horsin' around. CarousHELL and its sequel follow mane character Duke, an inanimate but sentient and also magical unicorn ... with a taste for blood. The first film is a true tail revenge, while the second adds complications of Nazis, fatherhood, and puppetry. Do Meg and Brian find these films funny, or do they tell Steve to go clomp himself?

Minisode 52: Barbarian (2022)

**Spoy Luh Hers** If you haven't seen this movie, and don't want to get it spoiled for you don't listen. It's a movie worth seeing blind. If you don't care and want to hear the good Zac Efron and booby jokes, hit play. We're talking about the feature debut of Zach Cregger, BARBARIAN (if you participate in Miss March erasure which Steve doesn't.) From the Whitest Kids U Know to the Bulgarian extras you don't, Zach delivers a film that is tense and paranoid. Then turns it on its head with ludicrous scenarios. Excellent performances from Bill Skarsgard, Georgina Campbell, and Justin Long, plus an impressive synth score elevate the film.

Minisode 51: Stigmata (1999)

It's punishment, and we're talking religious horror. CW: Lots of talk of the Catholic church and all the baggage with that, how astrology is stupid, and Meg's lurid art. Be aware if you think those things may upset you, or if you're Roger Ebert and hate this movie. We're talking the most 90s horror non-horror as Gabriel Byrne tries to save Patricia Arquette from the priest inside her. Directed by the guy who brought you Blank Check, U Can't Touch This and other MC Hammer videos. The surrounding theology vastly outpaces this drab, very not filmed in Pittsburgh film.

Bonus minisode for the month as we creep ever closer to Spooky Season and our Satamber Showdown. This week we're watching a prequel 13 years in the making, ORPHAN FIRST KILL. How does a prequel handle the issue of its partner film being so predicated on a twist? It doesn't, and just makes its own wild ass twist. But if you watched these films chronologically, this film ruins the surprise of the original. Much the same way watching Rogue One first ruins the surprise and mystique of the Death Star for Episode IV. This film does other bad stuff too, and we talk about it.

This week we have a guest on. It's Drew West from surf horrorpunk band, Drew and The Blue and also The Horrornauts. Drew even got to pick the movie and he chose the punker splatterfest The Return of the Living Dead. Our second Dan O'Bannon film this month also makes sense as this and Lifeforce were released in the same year. Lots of talk of music this episode including the unforgettable film soundtrack featuring The Cramps and 45 Grave. Also they compare the film to Romero's trilogy, Resident Evil, its own sequels and zombie films in general to give you a sense how this 80s classic holds up.
